Preparation:
Before you start, make sure you are working in a well-ventilated and dust-free environment like an open garage. Also, use a drop cloth to cover your workplace area to protect it from overspray. Once done with these all, gather all the things that you are going to require for completing this task. Afterward, wipe down the laser cut trees to be painted using a tack cloth to remove any dust or dirt.
Prime:
It is recommended to use primer on your trees before spray painting because primer ensures excellent adhesion of paint on the surface and provides better protection to the surface being painted. To prime the surface, shake the spray-cane of Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Primer Spray for one minute and make sure that the mixing ball starts to rattle. Do not strike spray-cane in case mixing ball fails to rattle and contact Rust-Oleum. Once the spray cane thoroughly shaken, hold it 10-16” away from the trees and spray in a steady motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart and let the primer dry to touch. Now, flip the tree over and repeat the steps.
Paint:
After 20 minutes, you are ready to paint the trees. To spray paint the trees, shake the spray-cane of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Bright Coat spray paint in Gold for one minute, and hold it upright 10-16” from the trees. Use a sweeping motion to spray two or more light coats a few minutes apart and let the paint dry to touch. Now, flip the tree over and do the same on the other side.
Glitter:
Once the paint dries, it’s time to apply glitter on trees. It is recommended to match your glitter to the base coat on painted trees. For example, a gold colored trees will look the best top coated with gold glitter. To coat the trees in glitter, use the same technique that you did while painting and priming the trees. Shake the cane first and then hold it upright 12-14” from the trees. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart, let the glitter dry to the touch. Flip the tree over and spray the other side using same technique.
Seal the Glitter:
To keep your glitter from flaking off the trees, coat it with a clear sealer. Using the same technique as you did for the glitter, spray the Glitter Clear Sealer on your trees, and set them aside to dry.
Finish:
Let the trees dry thoroughly or at least for 24 hours before displaying them.
