Instructions to Apply WATCO Butcher Block Oil
Surface Preparation: Before applying oil, it's crucial to prepare the bare wood for finishing by sanding it in the direction of the grain. Start with #150 grit sandpaper and gradually progress through #180 and #220 grits for a smooth surface. Ensure removal of all sanding dust and dirt with a vacuum before proceeding with the oil application.
Application: Watco Butcher Block Oil & Finish comes ready-to-use, so avoid thinning it. Ensure application at room temperature. Thoroughly mix the material before use and stir occasionally during application. Apply it with a soft, clean cloth. Allow a 6-hour drying time before recoating, and lightly scuff sand with #400 grit sandpaper prior to recoating. Allow 72 hours before normal use, and hand wash the surface before any food contact—avoid washing in the dishwasher. If desired, apply additional coats to build up the finish. Avoid applying over other finishes. Note that on objects with small openings like canisters, proper drying may be hindered when applied to the interior surface.
