Instructions to Use WATCO Exterior Wood Oil Finish

Surface Preparation:Before applying Watco Exterior Wood Finish, it's essential to ensure that the wood is dry and free from subsurface moisture. Remove any existing finishes using sandpaper or stripper. After sanding, eliminate all sanding dust and dirt by vacuuming, using a tack cloth, or wiping with a rag dampened with mineral spirits. For grease, oils, or adhesive residues, use a rag dampened with mineral spirits.

To protect landscaping, cover plants and shrubs in the vicinity. For personal protection, wear safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves to safeguard the eyes and skin during the application process.

Application: Ensure adequate ventilation is maintained throughout the application process. Apply Watco Exterior Wood Finish only when both the air and surface temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 95°F (35°C). Keep in mind that slower dry times may occur when applying to woods with high tannin and/or oil content, such as redwood or cedar, or during periods of high humidity and/or low temperatures. Use the product at full strength and perform a test in an inconspicuous area before full application.

Thoroughly stir the contents before and during use to ensure uniformity. For consistent color and appearance, complete the entire project with the same stain color as indicated on the label. Apply a heavy application (flood) using a lint-free cotton or polyester cloth or a high-quality brush. Watco Exterior Wood Finish can also be applied with a roller or spray. Allow the finish to penetrate for 30 minutes, then reapply the material and allow it to penetrate for an additional 15 minutes. Wipe the surface thoroughly with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove excess oil.

Allow the finish to dry for 8 to 10 hours before subjecting it to light use. For additional protection, allow Watco Exterior Wood Finish to dry for 72 hours before applying a polyurethane topcoat finish.
