Even when it’s simple, creating or decorating something by ourselves always fills our heart with excitement. Earlier, we had shared some simple DIY steps to create Halloween candy bowls. And this time, we have come up with some simple glass decoration tricks to give a super shiny or mirror-like finish surface to an ordinary flower vase. The interesting part is, you don’t need to empty your pockets to complete this project. All you need is some basic household material along with Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect Spray and an ordinary flower vase.

Here’s the complete list of product you’ll require:

the complete list of product you ll require

  • Drop cloth
  • Spray bottle
  • Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect Spray
  • Paint stick
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Painter’s tape
  • Wide-mouth glass vase(s)
  • Vinegar
  • Scrap paper or plastic bag
  • Paper towel

Follow the below-mentioned steps to get a professional finish.

Step 1:

cover the surrounding area with drop cloths

First and foremost, ensure that the work area has an appropriate ventilation. Also, cover the surrounding area and items with drop cloths or old sheets to protect against overspray.

Step 2:

Clean the vase

Clean the inside and outside of the vase using glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth.

Step 3:

cover the outside of the glass

Use a large plastic or drop cloth to tape and cover the outside of the glass.

Step 4:

blot the inside of the vase

Wrap a paper towel around paint stick and fix it with painter’s tape. Once done, fill the spray bottle with an equal ratio of water and vinegar.

Step 5:

spray paint the glass vase

Now, it’s time to spray paint the glass vase. Take care of the followings:

  • Shake the spray-cane vigorously for a minute and ensure mixing ball begins to rattle.
  • In case mixing ball fails to rattle, “Do not strike spray-can. Contact Rust-Oleum."
  • Hold the cane upright 10-12” from a surface and spray in a steady back and forth motion.
  • Spray a light coat on the inside of the vase.

Step 6:

blot the inside of the vase

While the paint is still wet, spritz the paint inside with the water-vinegar solution. Afterwards, blot the inside of the vase using a paper towel for giving a mercury glass effect to the mirror.

Repeat the process of spraying and dabbing with a paper towel until the desired look is achieved. Later on, allow the painted vase to dry for several hours.

Optional Step 1: For an even greater contrast and distressed look, you can add a light coat of Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Flat Black spray paint to the inside and blot with a paper towel.

Optional Step 2: If you wish to fill your glass vase or jar with live flowers, ensure adding a coat of Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Clear spray paint to the inside. This will act as a sealant and help your project staying in top condition.
